High Oil Prices Boost Uganda's Oil-Development Project
The prevailing high global commodity prices present opportunities for Uganda to fast-track the development of its 230,000 barrel-a-day oil project, Finance Minister Matia Kasaija says. Gasoline prices have reached records above $4 a gallon，which provides a chance for countries such as Uganda to advance its undeveloped oil assets, estimated at 6.5 billion barrels of crude. "We will expedite the implementation of project activities to ensure timely start of oil production to bring in more dollars to boost our reserves so that bank of Uganda has enough arsenal to fight inflation" Kasaija says. Companies including TotalEnergies have invested billions of dollars in Uganda, where they hope to start oil production by 2025.
